Where We Gather
Where we gather is more than a place, it’s a practice. Rooted in the lakou tradition, it’s where people come together to share food, movement, music, and meaning, creating moments that feel both familiar and new.
This is where community takes shape. In open courtyards, by the sea, and around the table, we gather to reconnect with each other, with culture, and with the rhythm of home. A lakou has always been a space of care, conversation, and collective life. Lakou December reimagines that tradition for today, offering a place to gather with intention, presence, and joy.
We gather to eat, to rest, to move, and to celebrate. In doing so, we return to a way of being that values togetherness, shared space, and the simple power of showing up.

ROOTED. RHYTHMIC. RESTORATIVE...
ROOTED
Lakou December is grounded in Haitian land, lineage, and shared space. Every gathering honors where we come from (our food, our stories, our rituals) and the lakou as a place of collective care and belonging.

Rhythmic
Rhythm moves through everything we do: the drums, the sea, the voices, the way we gather at dusk. Music, movement, and sound anchor our days and nights, reminding us that culture is something you feel, not just witness.

Restorative
This is a return that nourishes the body and quiets the spirit. Through wellness, stillness, and intentional celebration, Lakou December creates space to rest deeply, reconnect fully, and leave feeling more whole.

Get to Know Us
Lakou December is a seasonal gathering space in northern Haiti inspired by the traditional lakou, a shared courtyard where community, conversation, and daily life meet.
This project was created as an invitation to slow down during one of the busiest times of the year. It is a place for rest, reflection, and reconnection, rooted in Haitian culture and shaped by care, simplicity, and presence.
Lakou December is not a typical café or event venue. It is a living space that centers access, openness, and gentle hospitality. Much of the programming is offered freely, supported by partners and sponsors who believe in cultural preservation, community well-being, and shared experience.
